What the Americans actually found in Normandy were six- and even eight-feet-high hedgerows trapped by a row of trees that added an impenetrable layer anywhere from six to twenty feet high. The dictionary definition of a "hedgerow" is a simple row of trees or bushes that separate one field from another.
